My Grandaddy lived in The Gorbals before he emigrated to The States - In the posh part i think - He used to throw pennies out the window of his big car to the poor kids - Just imagining it brings a tear to my eye

I used to live in Largs with a couple of my buddies. It was such a cool place in the summer but could be a tad boring in the winter although xmas and new year was great fun. One time my friends and I were standing at the old big arcade on the water side of the main street and Andy Goram, Gazza and Jimmy five bellies walked along on the other side of the street heading to gorams pub, Browns I think it was called. Can’t remember for sure. One of my buddies shouted across to them and says to gazza as a joke “Gazza, give me a loan of £20!” . Gazza waved him over and actually did gave him £20. It was awesome. Ever since then I liked Gazza.

The gorbals do look like a proper shi hole back in the day. There's crap lying around everywhere. Nobody think of cleaning some of that shit up?

@@williamf4544 If there's litter left outside my house I pick it up and put it in the bin. I don't understand why people don't want to make where they live better. These days they expect someone else to do it like the council. They're happy to complain though.

Yes thats so true - same with shops as you seldom see anyone sweeping the fron of shop doorways - I have even seen cafes put out theit little tables and chairs on top of a whole load of trash rather than sweep it up first - Its the "its not my job" mindset@@BillyBobDingo1971

As a Student at the then Nautical College - Gorbals in 1997 was my first exp of Glasgow. The Kwiksave near the postoffice and Jimmys Curry near the Brazen Head. The Celtic Fans around the place. No mobiles ! the small clydesdale bank around the bridge. Just Fun times. I hope to return and visit soon.

Louis's Fish & Chips...miss that place. Honestly, I loved the older Port Glasgow of the early 1980's. I used to have a pint in Sutherland bar/pub and they would have the disco on the weekends. If I was in a hurry the bar at the Star Hotel was handy. Sometimes I would wander over the the Ranger's Supporters club. I can't recall the name of the place over by the old rope works, but that was good on a Friday night as well. Yes, things were different when Scott-Lithgow had work in the slipway. Good to see Ferguson's still is a working yard.
